About Us

About us

We are now open normal hours as we have strong systems of control in place re Covid-19  to keep all adults and children as safe as we possibly can within pre-school. We are allowing no external adults into our pre-school building except for the staff team, so parents/carers leave their children at the garden gate after sanitising their hands and lunch box if necessary. The staff then take the children into the pre-school building. Collection of children at the end of the session is the same procedure only in reverse. Other professionals who may need to visit do so by appointment only when agreed to by the staff team.

New families wishing to know more about our pre-school will contact the staff team to see what can be arranged safely for all.

Since coming into existence in 1980, West Street Pre-school is a Registered Charity managed by a voluntary committee.

In March 2022 we were graded as a 'Good' pre-school by Ofsted.

We are Ofsted registered, and we are supported by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, and the Early Years Specialist teacher.  We offer 2, 3, 4 year olds free places if they qualify for government funding. We provide services from 8.45 am - 3.15 pm on Monday - Thursday and 8.45-11.45 on Friday which can incorporate lunch time. Term Time only.

We also work closely with nursery schools in the area to provide a seamless transition to full time education when they move on. But we are able to provide Nursery Education Grant funded places at West Street Pre-school for 3 to 5 year olds as well.

ETHOS we enable children to learn through play.

By following the practice of planning for Intent ; implementation; and Impact.

It is essential that children feel cared for; happy and safe; in order for them to develop the confidence to learn. We provide a staff ratio of 1 adult to 4 children at all times.

In line with government guidelines we follow a structure of learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old. This is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables your child to learn through a range of activities.

The EYFS ensures:

  • Children learn through play
  • Providers work closely with parents
  • Your child’s learning at home is taken into account
  • You are kept up to date with your child’s progress

We support the welfare, learning and all-round development of children with different backgrounds and levels of ability, including those with special educational needs and disabilities. We do this by following/using the Characteristics of Effective learning and by using various teaching methods to support each individual child’s needs.

Our dedicated, caring and knowledgeable practitioners are key to our continued success. Staff are given access to training opportunities, all through the rest of their employment time with us. To support your children throughout their time in our pre-school, meeting all children's individual needs as best we can.

Qualifications, experience, commitment and enthusiasm are all aspects of our staff recruitment policy.

Our inspection in March 2022 we were graded as a 'Good' in all areas within our setting.  We are committed to supporting a wide range of development opportunities for our staff team and the children within our setting.
